Dear Yogis ๐
This newsletter is for current online yoga participants and face to face participants at Corlette Hall (and previously at Government Rd Nelson Bay). This newsletter is an update to online classes and future face to face classes. If you have stumbled onto this newsletter and not fit into those categories, please be mindful of the context of this newsletter and existing familiarity I have with my Yoga community online and in the Port Stephens Community.
Edit: I had almost finished this prior to the increased restrictions August 2021. So here we are with the tighter restrictions, I really hope you all have what you need… food, company, the essentials and dare I joke… toilet paper ๐คฃ
This is approx a 5 minute read covering
- Online classes
- Chiropractic Practice relocating as of Monday 9th August 2021
- Health Wishes for you….๐
Thank you for your patience and support! ๐

How do the online yoga and health classes work?
With the online yoga and health classes there are 2 formats where you can practice at home.
There are often technical difficulties as I navigate the joys of ever upgrading apps and spontaneous new options or old software suddenly deleted by YouTube or Facebook…. ๐ these situations are great opportunities for me to practice my deep breathing and sense of humour whilst providing me accelerated learning and troubleshooting opportunities.
I truly apologise for any of the technology challenges!
Standard Times for Online Live Yoga Sessions until face to face classes recommence
Tuesday 9am
Thursday 10am
I will be reviewing the sessions that are currently available on Facebook (over 250) and filling the gaps. Some of you have asked for assistance with your back exercises. Also various specific exercises for neck, shoulders etc. If you see me posting live beyond these times it will be to upload some of these sessions; address questions being asked; or even a technology check for any of you having challenges with access.
Facebook Access
For Facebook classes you simply need to be a member of the secret Yoga Community PSChiro & Giggles. If you send me a friend request then I can add you to the group. (You can then unfriend me if you like ๐).
With the Facebook Group, you have access to all the classes for practice at any time that you likeโฆ so please, letโs get deep breathing and improving our health togetherโฆ.! Make the most of this time to really improve your overall physical and emotional health.
Suggestion: How about we take the time to focus not just on our muscular skeletal and emotional health, but cardiovascular health as our priority over the August and September 2021.
Maybe even set yourself a challenge of a few sessions a weekโฆ or even daily. Especially practice some deep mindful breaths or even just some joyful balanced breaths. There are 5 minute daily sessions, through to 90 minutes. There is Qigong, knee rehab, hip rehab and core strength sessions. There are gentle yoga sessions, to stronger stretching and then options for some relaxation and pre-sleep meditation.
Please, let me know if you need help with what sessions to revisit. I am happy to work out a program of sessions for you by tagging you on certain posts. Likewise, if you are sore, if you have new ailments, if you have overloaded an area of your body, please let me know and we can gently support those areas and firstly make sure that you are taking the correct options for your specific needs.
Some Logistics to enhance your comfort:
Make sure you have your devices on “do not disturb” while you are participating in a session, make sure family members and pets are aware of your yoga time. Please have some water with you during your practice and aim to have at least three small drink breaks. Have cushions and blankets on stand by to support, knees, hips, head and for the prevention of potential foot cramps (if you do not know this secret yet, please message me and I will help you unlock one of the secrets to the universe ๐)
At the beginning of a live session, please leave me a hello. (Sometimes it is difficult for me to know who is actually watching as the face icons do not always show up). At the end of a session, please leave me a message in the comments or private message me with how you feel from our practice. When you do a replay at your own convenience, please type “replay” in the comments as it is great to know what sessions are most popular with the replays… and what you are up to ๐
YouTube Access
This will require a link for you to access the specific class you would like to participate live or do a replay of. Please understand, the YouTube links are not a public link that you can search for. They are private for various reasons, so please check with me before you share any session beyond our community ๐๐ฝ
Please let me know if you would like access via YouTube. I will place the links on Telegram and or can text you as specific individuals if YouTube is a better platform for you to access. In the weekly post on Facebook, I will include the YouTube links as well.
Remember, once you have the link, you can replay the link whenever you like, as many times as you like. I appreciate your honesty and support and am here to serve your health however I can.
The Chat feature available on YouTube live allows you to communicate with me or give me a thumbs upโฆ. Only if you are signed in. This requires the user name that you use Google with.
If you have any technology problems or issuesโฆ contact me and I will help you with it!

I love and appreciate your referrals! I am aware that many people are unable to access their normal classes at the moment. If you think I could assist your family or friends, I will look after them!

Port Stephens Chiropractic is now located ~
Cascade Walk Arcade Nelson Bay
It has been such a huge couple of months in our world. Not only are there challenges with the larger macro demands of the world, but we had the last week of Kevin working from our space at Government Rd. What a beautiful chapter of our life now finishing to the excitement of the next….. (mind you, the increased restrictions, certainly increased the stress and strain of this ๐)
Our Chiropractic Practice has relocated to Shop 11, Cascade Walk at Nelson Bay. Kevin will be working out of the 1st shop as you walk in from the top end of the mall. There will be a small retail space and we have had a few local practitioners approach us with working out of the space as well. We are so excited for our future in this space!
Chiropractic Care is an Essential Clinical Health Service and continues to operate with the focus of maintaining care for the needs of our Patients under current health directives.
Just as a reminder with parking in Nelson Bay, please remember as rate payers and residents within any area of Port Stephens, you are able to have free parking in the metered areas. This is something to arrange with Port Stephens Council. If you have any challenges with the process, please give them a call and they can troubleshoot any challenges. It is a fairly straight forward online process to organise the pass.
At this stage, when restrictions are lifted, Yoga classes will resume at Corlette Hall.

Some Reflections
I really appreciate those of you who have been voicing your opinions, fears, wishes and all the other categories of communication regarding our face-to-face yoga practice, masks and the myriad of issues that can flow from these conversations. ๐๐ฝ
In my just over 30 years of working, studying and delivering in the health and wellness pathways, I made an oath when I was 18 along with other students of the course. My oath among other points was โabove all, do no harmโ. This is a commitment I hold dearly and for those of you who have been sharing our pathway together for quite some time now, would have no doubt with my commitment and deliverance to this oath.
The decision to pause face to face classes during the mask mandate brings many few issues. Firstly, I miss you all and the community that we have. However, the decision to pause classes was in regards to firstly your cardiovascular health, the number one cause of death in Australia. Many โmummyโ blog articles, MSM (mainstream media) and discussions of masks with virus related topics overlook the published medical literature postulating numerous health challenges associated with mask wearing when under physical load. The awesome proclamations of science and research with masks and virus efficacy are not the main issue here. What is apparent, that after reading over 30 published medical research papers, checking their referenced literature and medical journal articles prior to 2020, there is no evidence to suggest that exercising in masks is safe. I am aware that gyms and recreation centres prior to these most recent restrictions were holding their classes with masks on, but to my knowledge and my commitment to you, this will not allow me to put you at risk.
When a person says they want to get fitter and have more energy, it is a simple way of expressing that they want to increase cardiovascular fitness (potentially address toxicity and other issues as well… it is rarely one dimensional). Here in lies a fundamental disparity with the goal of increasing oxygen capacity and reducing toxins through the practice of yoga and various other pathways of exercise programs. Adding a layer of a face covering and the many variables of the mask ethos removes cardiovascular gains. Take a moment to ponder the understanding of cardiovascular fitnessโฆ. referring to the health of your heart, lungs, vessels and their capacity to move oxygenated blood to working muscles efficiently. Again prior to this time research was indicating that just as you can have slow food metabolism and decreased water metabolism, we can also have reduced oxygen metabolism.
When we practice focused breathing exercises, we do not want to inhibit the inhale or exhale. So, for your health, I ask that you continue to practice your deep breathing at home to assist your blood oxygen levels. As we have discussed personally, I am aware that some of you are wearing masks for long work shifts, I urge you all to be doing some deep breathing without a mask every day. Just like any reduced capacity in our body, you slowly get used to it. This reduction is not something we should be forcing ourselves to get used to.
I have to say that I pondered and hypothesised the idea that by working harder with wearing a mask during exercise, you may potentially enhance your performance without a mask… kind of like the idea of altitude training ethos… (not really). There were only road blocks for me to hit when I went down this path. Also, when you consider some basic numbers which you can easily research with regards to bacteria, viral debris and toxins in your nasal cavity, your mouth, and those travelling on your exhale, the potential dangers are far too great for aerobic capacity to increase, due to anaerobic systems, inhibitors, hypoxia and toxic load.
The above discussion is specifically in regards to our classes with a mask on and is not in relation to mask efficacy with the current virus. I make this case because I really want you to practice in the safety and comfort of your own home. Please stretch, strengthen, breathe and balance your mindset. Improve your overall health ๐๐๐

Finally
Thank you so much for your ongoing support in these extraordinary times!
Please know that I am here to serve your health and your happiness and would love to hear from you with an update. I have talked and messaged some of you and apologise if I have missed you. Please keep me updated with how you are, how your family is going and if there is anything I can assist you with.
My best wishes always
Maree ๐๐๐๐
